PUMP N' RUNS

Paula was fascinated with pump n' running when she first heard of it in Germany.  Her husband's US Army / NATO unit, 414th Signal Company, stationed in Mannheim, conducted one in the late 1990's.  She thought it was a cool event to combine a bench press then a run. 

Basically, for every rep completed on a bench press, a certain amount of time will be deducted from the participant's 5K time.  The resulting score will be a net score, the lowest number yielding the winner.  There are variations on the pump including how much weight to be bench pressed; a few have several different lifts; lifting may be done the day before or the day of the 5K.

Paula came in 4th place in 2007 and 1st place in 2008 for the Second Empire 5K Classic Pump n' Run in Raleigh, NC.
